Job summary

You will be part of bp’s Data & Analytics Platform organisation, the group responsible for the platforms and services that operate bp’s big data supply chain. The portfolio covers technologies that support the life cycle of critical data products in bp, bringing together data producers and consumers through enablement and industrial scale operations of data ingestion, processing, storage and publishing, including data visualisation, advanced analytics, data science and data discovery platforms.

For this role specifically, you will be expected to develop the necessary platform capability on our data hub to enable handling of ingested data and workflows, across different data sources and developing the process to allow us to publish and process data in our data hub (data lake) for analytics use cases.

About the job:

  • Delivers, manages, and operates data platforms including but not limited to data hubs, ETL and data ingestion, storage and repository maintenance, data publishing and consumption. Ensures that services and components are designed to meet fundamental data management and governance best practices, and the necessary security, devops and dataops control framework are in place.
  • Maintains awareness of opportunities provided by new technology to address challenges or to enable new ways of working. Contributes to briefings and presentations about their relevance and potential value to the organisation.
  • Designs, codes, tests, and documents complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications, and subsequent iterations, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Assesses and analyses release components. Provides input to scheduling. Carries out the builds and tests in coordination with testers. Ensures release processes and procedures are maintained.
  • Facilitates scoping and prioritization for change initiatives of medium size and complexity. Contributes to selection of the most appropriate means of representing business requirements in the context of a specific change initiative, ensuring traceability back to source. Obtains formal agreement by stakeholders and recipients to scope and requirements and establishes a baseline on which delivery of a solution can commence.
About you:
  • Bachelor's degree, in Computer Science, MIS/IT, Mathematics or a hard science.
  • Extensive experience designing, planning, implementing, maintaining, and documenting reliable and scalable data infrastructure and data products in complex environments.
  • Extensive experience in technologies across all data lifecycle stages
  • Development experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, C++)
  • Experience in AWS platform and data-related Services - EMR, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, Kinesis, S3, Lambda, and Step Functions
  • Experience with Elasticsearch, Kafka, Redis, HDFS and in DB Systems like MySQL or Postgres.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of modern development methodologies (Agile using Scrum and/or Kanban).
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to lead large organizations through influence
  • Experience refining business requirements into technical deliverables, helping prioritize effort to meet business demand
  • Experience in thought leadership and providing technical guidance, shaping mid to long term strategic planning for IT Services
  • Knowledge and experience in development and managing operations of IOT, streaming, or Digital Twins, and graph technologies is a plus
