Job summary

The energy industry faces a huge challenge, to deliver energy products safely, economically, and sustainably. We anticipate a major transformation of the energy industry during your career. Our chemical & process engineers get involved in all aspects of this challenge, from researching new technologies to developing project concepts, building new facilities and optimising safe operation. Chemical and process engineers work at the heart of the energy industry, supporting oil and gas production, processing, conversion to create fuels and chemicals, and developing new capability to serve the energy transition such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and green fuels.

As a summer intern, you will be assigned to a chemical & process engineering team and given tasks to work as a regular team member. You’ll have opportunities to network with bp’s deep technical experts in different aspects of the discipline and enjoy learning opportunities covering diverse aspects of our industry. With on-the-job experience working on something that is important to the business and access to specialist support, this is a first rate opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the energy industry and begin your journey towards becoming a great engineer

Roles and responsibilities
The precise nature of your role will be defined by your skills as well as the needs of the business but your responsibilities will include:

  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions
  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for bp as a company
  • Building relationships both within bp and with our external partners, collaborating across Production & Operations, and teams to deliver excellence
  • Demonstrating drive and dedication through the bp values with an emphasis on safety

To apply for this role, you’ll need a master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemical/process engineering, applied chemistry and chemical engineering, safety/process safety engineering, process safety & loss prevention or industrial systems, manufacture & management.
To apply for this role, you will need to be in your penultimate year of study,or in your final year but continuing your education with a masters degree in the next academic year.
