Job summary

Rapidly growing its renewables business is core to bp’s strategy – by 2030 bp aims to have developed around 50GW of net renewable generating capacity up from 3.3GW in 2020. Following the recent bid submission for two offshore wind leases in the Netherlands, and in line with our future strategic growth ambitions for offshore wind in the Netherlands, we are looking to hire great people to join our offshore wind team in the Netherlands.

This role is focused on the HKW tender and/or future tenders in the Netherlands.

We are looking for high caliber individuals to join our expanding our country team to support our growing portfolio of projects. The Technical Project Manager will handle all offshore wind project development related activities in the country.

This role has been advertised in bp's Rotterdam office location adjacent to the Rotterdam refinery, but we welcome applications from all interested candidates across the Netherlands as we look to establish our local Netherlands offshore wind team and project office(s) in a -to be confirmed- future location more centrally.

Technical Project Manager, Offshore Wind

In this role You will:
  • Coordinate the Technical Input to bids and projects from across the Engineering function
  • Leading all development activities for offshore wind in the country, from pre-bid until FID with the option to manage the project beyond FID
  • Provide technical expertise in project development phase and provide advice / support to Project Director
  • Manage all interfaces across packages (incl. procurement) and resolve any technical issues. Examine engineering designs to optimise costs in project dev. phase
  • Disseminate LCoE best practices and targets across packages
  • Provide technical appraisal expertise and review engineering designs to optimise cost in bid phase
  • Manage all details regarding technical interfaces between packages and components
  • Ensure coordination across packages for technical interfaces
  • Develop and manage procedures for identifying, processing and implementing lessons learned on technical interfaces
  • Plan and schedule projects for on time and on budget delivery
  • Build construction delivery plan and provide input on budget implications to feed into the project business case
  • Plan according to permits and contracts and ensure compliance during construction
  • Implement and use planning processes and tools for standardised and effective planning and scheduling
  • Coordinate logistics for the packages including interfaces throughout construction phase
  • Gather and analyse project data including project costs and construction schedules
  • Monitor and challenge project costs pre-FID and during construction to meet budgets
  • Monitor and track progress against the project’s schedule and identify potential delays
  • Work with project construction team to optimise cost mgmt. and improve timely delivery, as needed
  • Codify lessons learned into best practices for project controls
What You will need to be successful:
  • An Engineering/ science degree
  • An inclusive and respectful mindset with capability of building strong relationships, influencing and collaborating with others; understanding the big picture and driving focus on what matters; able to work with complex, ambiguous and limited data.
  • Major project management in a delivery role
  • General understanding of offshore wind development, ideally in the Netherlands
  • Fluent English is required with strong preference for fluent Dutch
  • People skills, ability to lead by example and to lead without line authority
  • Demonstrable ability to influence in areas of limited control
  • Ability to professionally interact with external stakeholders, for example with suppliers, government authorities, or regional stakeholders
  • Strong technical understanding of offshore wind energy infrastructure and supply chain.
