We are delighted to offer this opportunity for a Senior Technologist, Energy Systems Modelling to come and join us as a subject matter specialist – running research projects in the fields of technology, hardware and software supporting EV forecourt design optimisation as well energy storage optimisation for utility scale projects focusing on colocation value with solar or wind farms.

Senior Technologist, Energy Systems Modelling to come and join us as a subject matter specialist – running research projects in the fields of technology, hardware and software supporting EV forecourt design optimisation as well energy storage optimisation for utility scale projects focusing on colocation value with solar or wind farms.
The role sits within the Advanced Mobility & Industrial Products (AMIP) group - they support a significant portion of the Castrol business, bp pulse and gas and low carbon energy.

Accountabilities will Include
· Development of bp’s charging infrastructure research workstreams in support of the bp ultra-fast charging strategy.
· Support the expert technology lead for new market entries as required including design and development of fast charging (150 kW+) EV networks for passenger cars and trucks in line with market needs.
· Model renewable power generation and potential battery energy storage solutions to optimise battery sizing, specification and deployment configuration. Research new methods, including the development of algorithms, in support of optimisation problems related to grid demand and maximising energy storage utilisation
· Research new methods for front of the meter optimisation supporting bp’s integration with Open Energy and increasing value for collocated energy storage systems.
· Participate in bp’s Battery Technology and Origination Squad, a cross functional technical and commercial team, to build bp’s capability to design and deploy battery energy storage solutions which bring value to bp.
· Design and development of energy models to understand the efficiencies of various long duration energy storage systems and its applications to inform strategy and investment decisions.
· Working with bp pulse and G&LCE to provide the technical insights and expertise to allow identification of innovative business opportunities within Electrification and Mobility.
· Working with the expert technologist lead to develop simulation models for behind the meter/front of the meter optimisation for collocated renewable energy assets in support of G&LCE’s roadmap.
· Working with the expert technologist lead to develop simulation models to optimise energy storage systems collocated with EV forecourts.
· Working with the advanced modelling team to see synergies in 3D wind models and its subsequent benefit in energy storage modelling

experience of rolling out energy system models for business units – likely gained in an electrical supply utility company or electrical systems technology / consulting role.
Proven experience in software such as R, Python, Matlab.
Fundamental understanding in cloud architecture (AWS)
Experience of working with strategic partners and effective at interacting with customers and leading projects with internal stakeholders, 3rd parties and OEMs. Experience of working closely with marketing teams for the development of technology strategies, offers and for exploring new business would be advantageous.

Relocation available: Negotiable
Travel Required: Negligible travel
Time Type: Full time; working bp work-life 60:40 (60% in the office and 40% working remotely)
Location: South East, United Kingdom. Role is based in Pangbourne, Oxfordshire but incumbent will be expected to spend some time at our offices in London.
