Job summary

Our resilient hydrocarbons business is a key pillar in bp's transformation into an integrated energy company. The Gulf of Mexico and Canada (GOMC) business exemplifies this approach producing bp oil and natural gas while continuing to reduce emissions from our operations. The business, with a 1,200+ team, consists of four operated deepwater production platforms in the region – Atlantis, Mad Dog, Na Kika and Thunder Horse, with a fifth platform, Argos due to come online in the near future. We also have and exciting and growing business on the East Coast of Canada.
In this role you will work closely with the Senior Vice President of GOMC and sit on the business leadership team. You will also be a key member of the Production and Operations (P&O) and People and Culture (P&C) leadership teams.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, drive and deliver an integrated people-plan in support of the business strategy
  • Provide diagnostics, insights and solutions to clients on key people issues
  • Partner with Centers of Excellence (CoEs) (Talent, Reward & Wellbeing, Culture, ER/IR, Services and Solutions) to provide solutions for the business
  • Coach and engage GOMC P&C partnering team
  • Drive the culture as we continue to transform our business for the future
You will also:
  • Integrate and deliver the people strategy across the region
  • Provide expert business facing HR expertise
  • Alongside the People Relations and Reward CoE, assess and manage all ER and IR risk including keeping all GOMC only policies market competitive and current
  • Lead the regional partnering team to ensure that P&C is working to deliver the strategy, providing coaching and oversight of complex or sensitive issues where needed
  • Own and develop all crisis and continuity management process and policies with people accountabilities, ensure the P&C team has the right capability to respond to a crisis
  • In partnership with CoEs and sub entity VP P&C's, ensure a long term talent management strategy is in place to support strategy and enhance the development and deployment of internal talent
  • Drive improvements to organizational effectiveness, design and change management by deeply understanding how the business works, the cost impact of all people decisions and supporting the business to identify and enact interventions
  • Define how the DEI strategy will be implemented to ensure an inclusive and diverse workplace which reflects the communities in which we operate and in particular lead on DEI activity that is focused at the regional level
  • Develop regional wellbeing agenda with support from the CoEs and local HSE team
  • Ensure the leadership team has a deep understanding of the pulse of the organization and develop the plan to shape the culture and improve engagement and productivity
  • Manage large scale, complex change programs to ensure successful implementation of business strategy (e.g., starting up a new hub, growth in a new region)

Essential education

Degree qualified or equivalent experience/education

Job requirements

  • Specific technical expertise and experience in strategic talent management, employee relations, change management, and organizational development and effectiveness (including coaching, organization design, facilitation, and team development),
  • Effective strategic partnering experience, supporting businesses/functions of significant scale, size and complexity.
  • Apply predictive analytics to identify outcomes and improve decision making; e.g. ER strategies, targeted retention, org planning & strategic workforce shaping
  • Demonstrate strong capability to apply business insights and clearly link value to business results at the business and Segment level e.g., improved decision making, D&I
  • Make decisions clearly align to customer/business/Segment strategy. Be able to guide executives through choices to best suit business requirements
  • Deeply integrate to drive business solutions and disrupt where necessary. Demonstrate making valuable contributions and taking things to the next level
