We’re proud to be a business where everyone can be themselves, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender identity. We want to be a great place to work for everyone, including our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees

At BP, we promote an environment where employees can bring their whole selves to work. This makes sure that all our people can deliver at their best and progress based on their full potential. BP Pride, our employee led LGBT+ network, has developed two core programmes to help drive an inclusive work environment for all:

  • Safe Space: This aims to provide all employees with tools to help them become an active ally and create a safe working space for everyone. It also looks to encourage employees to find the courage to stand up to inappropriate behaviours.
  • Allies: The aim of this programme is to create a supportive working culture across BP, in which allies proactively self-identify as such and create an environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work.

BP is known for its progressive action in facilitating inter-energy awareness and cross-industry networks on LGBT+ issues. As such, we are now the highest-ranking energy company in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.

BP Pride also has an established network of external LGBT partnerships, which support our commitment to LGBT+ employees, including:

  • Stonewall Global Champion.
  • Stonewall Diversity Champion in the UK.
  • Out and Equal Workplace Advocates in the US.

  • One of Stonewall's Top 13 Global Employers for 2018
  • BP has a perfect 100 score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index for 2018

"Our values and behaviours are the foundation of our Code – Respect is a hugely important value. We want people to feel able and willing to give their best for BP every day, and that means making sure people feel valued and completely welcome and accepted when they come to work.

"To succeed in an increasingly competitive world we need to be a business where everybody feels included, treated with respect and dignity and knows they can freely contribute their ideas and speak up without fear of retaliation when something doesn’t seem right. BP has built a reputation as a great place to work, whatever your background, whatever your sexual orientation or gender, and regardless of any needs you may have relating to a particular disability. I’m really proud of our record, but we still have much more to do to fully reflect the world and the communities that we work in."
