Study for a data science degree level apprenticeship

 

This is your route to a nationally-recognized qualification. You’ll be part of a truly global business as you support the supply of a market-leading premium product. It will mean operating across different timezones and cultures, which will give you incredible exposure to worldwide working.

Join our global supply apprenticeship to:

 

  • Gain exposure to an end to end supply chain and work with functions across the value chain including marketing, technology, procurement, manufacturing and all aspects of the supply chain.
  • Be hands-on in working on projects, supporting key activities in the global supply chain, and handling complex data across manufacturing, logistics, procurement and planning.
  • Have valuable exposure to operational and strategic elements of the supply chain, which will prepare you for a wide number of career paths in future.

What to expect

You’ll have the chance to spend time in the global supply chain for the Lubricants (Castrol) division of bp, supporting the supply of automotive, industrial, energy and marine lubricants all round the world.

 

You’ll be part of the Global Planning function in the Global Operations team and taking on operational and strategic projects and activities including:

  • Handling significant amounts of complex data for the global supply chain, providing data analysis, insights and reporting for key projects and activities
  • Creating and maintaining of data repositories, databases and dashboards
  • Establishing and maintaining balanced scorecards 
  • Helping create and implement a data management strategy
  • Driving standardization of data and reporting in the global supply chain
  • Supporting key supply chain projects including acting as a project team member, working on actions and supporting the project team on global planning related actions. These could range from strategic supply chain resilience through the introduction of new products to supply disruption and crisis teams.

That’s why, when it comes to our data science apprenticeship programme, we welcome applicants from a range of academic subject backgrounds. Most importantly, we’re looking for people who have a real passion to work in a global business, and a drive to support the people aspects of our business agenda.

 

To be successful, you must be committed and motivated to studying towards a data science degree qualification. You must also have the ability to work on your own initiative – and be able to work co-operatively as part of a team. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, excellent written, verbal communication and numeracy skills, and the ability to plan ahead and prioritise your workload.

 

Ideally, you would have had exposure to Python, R, Automation or any coding courses.

You’ll be contributing across all sorts of supply chain projects and areas of work. It could see you involved in planning, manufacturing, resilience, engineering, quality and new product introduction, which will give you real exposure to different disciplines and parts of the business.

So who are we looking for?

You should be a high calibre student and planning to study a data related qualification. Keen to learn, you’ll have an inquisitive, problem-solving mindset and really want to get involved. That sense of energy means you’ll be excited about working with different functions, cultures and timezones. 

 

You’ll also need to be passionate about data and handling large amounts of it from multiple data sets. You want to come up with conclusions and recommendations. Lastly, you’ll be competent with Microsoft Office software, including Powerpoint and especially Excel.

Recruitment process

  • Online tests - these will check your numerical, verbal reasoning and error checking abilities
  • Assessment centre - a motivation and values-based interview, a group exercise and lunch
  • Offer and feedback - a firm offer or guidance on how to succeed next time

Requirements

 

You must be aged 18 or over at start of the programme in September 2020


If you’re studying A-levels or completing further education, you must be due to complete your qualification/s in 2020 (we’re unable to progress applications for students who will be part way through their studies when the programme starts).

 

You'll also need to have:

  • 96 UCAS points to include a C in Maths A-Level 
  • 3 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including English Language and Maths
  • Eligibility to study in the UK 

Ideally, you’ll also have studied subjects such as Physics, Information Management, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology or Statistics.
