Dates for the diary

Please note that vacancies are filled on an ongoing basis after opening and we may close applications before the stated deadline. Therefore, we highly recommend that you submit your application as early as possible in order to be considered for the opportunity of your choice.

Female BP discovery programme

Diversity and inclusion is the key to success at BP - and this paid programme is just one of the ways we're addressing our gender diversity balance. Open to female undergraduates from any discipline, you'll spend four days networking and hearing from female leaders. You'll also discover the culture of BP, our diverse range of roles and shadow an area of your choice. Participation offers a fast-track to technical interview for any of our internship opportunities the following year (eligibility criteria will apply).

Discovery days

Open to first and second years

Applications will open in December 2019.  Please keep an eye on this page for updates.

Our discovery days will predominantly take place during the summer of 2020 for students across all disciplines. Our one-day experience will provide insight into your area of interest. You will have an opportunity to experience our technology and working environments, such as our HIVEs (Highly Immersive Visualisation Environments), an analytical lab, a test facility or one of our trading floors. You will also get an opportunity to hear from graduates and interns about their roles and participate in workshops to help you improve your skills.

Travel expenses are covered.

Job shadowing is an excellent way to learn about day-to-day work life in a career field of your choice. If you are a first or second year student you can apply to pair up with one of our interns or graduates for one day.

You will gain insight into what they do as well as meet other interns, graduates and employees. It is a great way to see what life at BP is really like. This is a great first step to starting a career with us.

Widening participation programme

Open to first years (or second year if studying a four-year course / third year if studying a five-year course).

Two staff members chat while walking within BP's International Centre for Business and Technology (ICBT) in Sunbury, UK.

Our paid award-winning widening participation programme promotes and supports the recruitment and development of students from ethnically diverse backgrounds. Over the course of one week you will visit a BP operating site, spend time shadowing employees in a discipline related to your degree and attend workshops to improve your presentation and interview skills. For 2020, we welcome applications to the programme who wish to learn more about the following areas:

  • Automotive
  • Chemical and process
  • Chemistry
  • Commercial Downstream
  • Environmental science
  • Marine engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Naval architecture

Please note shadowing is not available within supply and trading for this programme. Please instead consider applying to the Supply and trading discovery week should this be an area of interest.

Participation offers a fast-track to technical interview for any of our internship opportunities the following year (eligibility criteria will apply).
