Around 80-90% of carbon dioxide emissions from oil and gas products are from their use by consumers. One of the biggest contributions we can make to advance the energy transition is by providing products and services that help consumers lower their carbon footprint.


As a consequence of extensive research and development, working with leading automotive manufacturers, Castrol’s portfolio of lubricants offers overall lower viscosities, which helps manufacturers improve the efficiency of their vehicles.


By reducing friction and energy losses, our lubricants help to improve the fuel economy of vehicles and can lead to significant greenhouse gas (GHG) savings based on gasoline fuel use avoided globally.


We estimate that – when compared with the global average portfolio – our range of lubricants helped avoid more than 340 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (COe) in 2017.
