25,000 tonnes CO₂e [Feb 2018-Jan 2019]
Around one billion cars – largely powered by internal combustion engines – are in use on the world’s roads today. Finding ways to help drivers tackle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is an important part of helping to advance the low carbon energy transition.
In Japan, Castrol is working to make a wide range of its car engine oil and engine shampoo ranges sold through independent car workshops and retail outlets certified carbon neutral. This Japanese range is certified carbon neutral in accordance with the BSI PAS 2060 standard and Castrol has made a commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of its product range over time.
Any residual emissions are offset through BP Target Neutral, our carbon offsetting programme that helps support emission reduction projects around the world, such as forest conservation in Zambia and renewable energy in China, through the purchasing of carbon credits. These projects also help provide economic, social and environmental benefits in their local communities.
