The region is home to some of the world’s most ancient cultures. We uncovered cultural heritage sites, including a medieval settlement, ancient graves and artefacts as part of our pre-construction environmental and social surveys.
In many cases, we were able to avoid these sites by modifying the route of the pipeline. Where this was not possible, the BP team and government archaeologists investigated and excavated the sites before construction began. The wealth of artefacts and sites discovered is contributing to the broader knowledge of past civilizations.
