We have a proud history of operations in Australia that reaches back almost 100 years, having arrived here in 1919. BP is the only oil and gas company engaged in the Australian market from well to bowser – from exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas (upstream), to refining and marketing of petroleum products (downstream). We employ more than 5,700 employees and long-term contractors across the country. Our operations are in every state and territory in Australia, which includes main offices in Perth (upstream) and Melbourne (downstream).
Our business activities generate a substantial amount and variety of taxes in Australia. We collect and/or pay corporate income tax (CIT), Downstream fuel excise, royalties and excise in respect of North West Shelf production, fringe benefits tax, payroll tax, stamp duties, land taxes, and withholding taxes. In addition, we collect and pay employee taxes as well as GST.
