The 23rd Caspian International Oil and Gas Exhibition opened at the Baku Expo Centre on 1 June. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, HE Ilham Aliyev made an opening speech. Talking about the projects in the Caspian operated by BP, the President highlighted the successful partnership between BP and SOCAR over more than 20 years and demonstrated his confidence in the future of this cooperation. The President recalled the signing of Shah Deniz production sharing agreement in June 1996 and highlighted the importance of Shah Deniz field in the world energy market. He also talked about the Southern Gas Corridor project saying that it will create an opportunity to deliver Azerbaijani gas produced both from Shah Deniz and other gas fields to world markets. He added that the work was progressing on all four segments of the Southern Gas Corridor – the Shah Deniz project, the South Caucasus gas pipeline, TANAP and TAP and it would be executed in a timely manner. After the official opening ceremony President Aliyev took a tour of the exhibition pavilion. At the BP stand the President was welcomed by Gordon Birrell, president of BP Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. Mr. Birrell displayed a video about the Shah Deniz 2 gas project progress – the largest foreign direct investment made in Azerbaijan – highlighting the complexity and significance of the project, as well as the benefits it will bring to Azerbaijan and the countries along the Southern Corridor.

As part of the exhibition, BP on behalf of its co-ventures in ACG, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD), and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) hosted a special Enterprise Development Awards ceremony. Launched in 2014 the initiative recognises the achievements of local companies that benefited from the BP-supported Enterprise Development and Training Programme. This year's two winning companies - Vertex and Training and Consulting services - received awards from Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, communications, external affairs and strategy vice president and Emil Ismailov, head of planning and commercial operations for BP Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey . On 2 June, as part of the 23rd Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, Caspian Oil and Gas Conference was held at the JW Mariott Absheron Hotel. On the first day of the conference Gordon Birrell, BP Azerbaijan Georgia Turkey regional president, made a presentation summing up BP activities in the region and the 20 years anniversary of Shah Deniz. Other BP speakers are also planned to make presentations during the conference. Caspian Oil and Gas Conference is one of the most significant international oil and gas events where the topical issues of bi-lateral and multi-lateral energy relations and global energy security are discussed.
