BP on behalf of its co-venturers, hosted the third School Project Management (SPM) graduation event in Baku today during which 80 graduates received their international Masters Certificates in Project Management. These included representatives of organisations from a wide range of public and private sectors including the government, oil and gas, insurance, telecommunications, construction, banking, embassies, tourism and education sectors.
Addressing the event, Gordon Birrell, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said: “It is really rewarding to see that the educational projects and initiatives we support are successful and, most importantly, are sustainable, continually reaching their targets, growing and contributing to the country’s growth.
For BP and its co-venturers, the project is part of our commitment to the country. We are confident that the considerable investments that we have made and continue to make in local people, and capacity -building in general, will continue to benefit our projects and those of the country for many decades.”
The SPM was established and funded by BP and its partners in the Azeri-Chirag- Gunashli (ACG), Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD), and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) in January 2011 as part of their commitment to supporting the country’s capacity-building efforts.
It is designed to develop the project management capability of individuals in both the private and public sectors, by providing globally-recognized, comprehensive project management training. It focuses on the simultaneous goals of improving immediate project management performance and establishing long term project management capability in the country.
The curriculum of the programme consists of seven modules and leads to globally recognized certification “Masters Certificate in Project Management”, awarded by the George Washington University: Managing Projects, Project Leadership, Management and Communication, Risk Management, Scheduling and Cost Control, Quality for Project Managers, Project Management Applications, and Project Management Professional (PMP) Exam Preparation.
