New leadership assignments

BP is delighted to announce that Joe Murphy is appointed head of country, Turkey effective 1 May 2019. Joe will be based in Ankara and report to Gary Jones, regional president, Azerbaijan Georgia Turkey. 

As head of country for Turkey, Joe will be BP’s senior representative in-country and support the implementation of BP’s strategy in Turkey managing partners, government relations and external affairs on behalf of all BP businesses in the country. In addition, Joe will continue with his current responsibilities as vice president Southern Corridor leading the development of the Shah Deniz field and Southern Corridor, a $40 billion project that will bring natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe for the first time. 

Joe has 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and has worked in Upstream, Downstream, chemicals, BP head office roles and in consulting. He has worked in Azerbaijan, Egypt, Sharjah, Vietnam, US, Qatar and the UK.

Joe holds a Master’s Degree in History from Cambridge University.
BP is also pleased to confirm the appointment of Brian McLeod to the role of vice president, safety and operational risk (S&OR) Azerbaijan Georgia Turkey (AGT), effective 1 April 2019. 

In his new role Brian will be responsible for leading the S&OR team and will be a member of the S&OR Upstream and AGT regional leadership teams. He will be based in Baku. 
Brian joined BP in 1981 and has held a number of site and leadership positions across Upstream in the areas of maintenance, operations, safety and operational risk. He is a safety and operational leader with over 38 years’ industry experience in upstream oil & gas production. 

Prior to this role, Brian was the operations authority in the AGT region since November 2016, where he made a significant contribution to safe and efficient operations.
