Workers at the Kamiranga ceramics factory
By buying carbon offsets, bp Target Neutral is supporting finance for projects that not only reduce carbon but help protect the Amazon region from deforestation.
Carbon finance from sale of carbon credits enabled the Kamiranga ceramics factory in Brazil to invest in new kilns that use renewable biomass residues for fuelling its kilns such as the pit of the acai fruit harvested from palm trees as well as sawdust.
By using biomass residues, the factory no longer relies upon non-sustainable fuel sources that lead to the depletion of forestry and as a result, the project has reduced carbon emissions by more than 350,000 tonnes of CO2e since it first issued credits.
