Developing a carbon neutral offer for car dealerships

Motorists are increasingly aware of the carbon impact of driving which means auto dealers are looking for ways to reduce their own emissions and help their customers to do the same
Developing a carbon neutral offer for car dealerships
  • Together with Castrol, Target Neutral has enabled more than 200 auto dealers, in 14 countries to go carbon neutral by using carbon neutral lubricants and reducing and offsetting the emissions from their operations.  It works like this:
  • Dealers can become certified carbon neutral businesses by reducing their emissions and then offsetting residual emissions through BP Target Neutral. This can help them to build their reputation amongst climate conscious customers.
  • Dealers can offer customers the chance to offset their own carbon emissions – for a set mileage – within the sale or service of vehicles.

Since launch more than 31,000 tonnes CO2e [Jan-Dec 2018] have been offset through the purchase of offsets from carbon reduction projects around the world that seek to provide economic, social and environmental benefits to the communities they serve.

Being part of this programme enables us to differentiate from our competitors and be pioneers. As a company we are conscious about the importance of respecting the environment and the Carbon Neutral approach is a perfect way not only to contribute to reducing our CO2 footprint but also that of our customers.”Mr. Antonio GomezCEO Grupo Motor Gomez, VW Group Dealer

Developing a carbon neutral airport fuelling service

When you’re one of the world's largest suppliers of aviation fuel with ‘on the ground’ activities at over 250 operated facilities worldwide, the logistical and carbon challenges are considerable
Air BP certified carbon neutral truck

BP Target Neutral worked with Air BP to help it become the first aviation fuel supplier to achieve carbon neutrality for its global into-plane fuelling operations.

Air BP now has a 10-year commitment to carbon neutral status which involves a plan that targets a five percent reduction in carbon emissions using a range of initiatives.

These include increasing driving efficiency, improving operational efficiency in waste management and stock management, vehicle fleet upgrades and maximising the options for supplying biofuels.

Any residual emissions, following these reductions, are offset through BP Target Neutral - using carbon credits from carbon reduction projects that also seek to provide economic, social and environmental benefits to the communities they serve.

13,000 tonnes CO2e have been offset for the period [Jul 2017-Jun 2018]*.

Developing a carbon neutral logistics service

The logistics industry keeps the UK supplied with more than five million tonnes of goods every single day7 - which brings a significant carbon challenge to the companies involved
Logistics, FedEx

One such company – DHL – operates a 160,000 sq ft warehouse in Leicestershire that sends over 1.5m packets of crisps and 400,000 sandwiches every month to drivers stopping for fuel or to grab a bite to eat at BP forecourts.

BP Target Neutral worked with DHL to put a plan in place to reduce, replace and neutralise carbon emissions and gain carbon neutral certification.

DHL’s depot has invested in efficient lighting and an improved battery system for stock picking in its warehouse.  Deliveries are made using a fleet of lower emission trucks and all packaging, food and retail store waste is returned to the depot for sorting, compacting or shredding and then recycled or sent to produce biogas.

The depot transport management centre even uses software to monitor and measure driver performance - recording braking, engine idle, acceleration and combined coasting.  Drivers are then scored and incentivised based on the efficiency of their performance.

Any residual emissions, following these carbon reductions, are offset through BP Target Neutral - using carbon credits from projects that also seek to provide economic, social and environmental benefits to the communities they serve.

Working with BP Target Neutral means we’ve had to look at all our processes and find smarter ways of working to reduce carbon emissions year on year to become certified as carbon neutral.”Nick TretisDHL Depot General Manager
