The BP Portrait Award: Next Generation is a dynamic project inspiring 14–21-year-olds about portraiture through the BP Portrait Award
Now in its eighth year Next Generation encourages young artists by opening up opportunities to meet and gain insights from past BP Portrait Award artists, to make and share their own artwork and to connect with other young people interested in portraiture.
How can you get involved?
Each year, there will be different ways to meet practising artists and explore the BP Portrait Award.
You can display and share your portraiture talent online, go behind the scenes to hear about what it’s like to be in the BP Portrait Award in video interviews with artists filmed by young people, and vote in the online portraiture polls.
Young artists can join one of the free taster sessions held at the gallery or by attending one of the three-day summer schools. All events are free, and all materials provided. You can also attend a private view for young people only.
BP Portrait Award: Next Generation aims to motivate and provide opportunities for young people to work with practising artists to explore portraiture. Enthused by this programme we hope to see a future BP Portrait Award winner evolve from this experience.Des Violaris, director UK arts and culture, BP
