FAQs for UK emergency services

Why is bp doing this?

We are working across bp to manage the unprecedented situation that the world is facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. bp wants to support both those who the rest of us depend on and all people staying at home in the UK during the current coronavirus pandemic. We are doing this by offering free fuel to our emergency services (police, fire, NHS ambulances and NHS trust non-emergency vehicles) fuel card holders for fleet vehicles, and free Deliveroo deliveries of convenience goods purchased from our company owned retail sites.

When will the offer end?

This offer initially ran from Saturday 21 March 2020 until Thursday 30 April. It offer has been extended at bp’s discretion until 7 June 2020. bp will continue to review the end date, and any potential further extension, as per the terms and conditions.

I work for the emergency services. What do I have to do to get free fuel?

When using a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card you will be able to fill up your fleet vehicle at any bp retail site without being charged.

How will I be reimbursed for the ‘free fuel for emergency services’ transactions?

This offer applies to emergency services using either a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card.  For the fuel purchased using an Allstar fuel card, bp will make the necessary arrangements with Allstar to ensure that the fuel is ‘free’ for the emergency services.

What about emergency services that do not have an Allstar or BP Plus card?
Over 90% of emergency services carry either a BP Plus or Allstar card. Anyone who is not in possession of either of these cards can apply for one via the bp website. We will work with any parties not covered to offer them a BP Plus card through our existing agreement with the Crown Commercial Services.
Who is eligible for the emergency services ‘free fuel’ offer?

This offer applies to the UK National Health Service (NHS) emergency ambulance services, NHS trust non-emergency vehicles as well as local police and fire authorities who use either a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card to purchase fuel under the Crown Commercial Services framework.

The offer currently applies only to the UK National Health Service (NHS) emergency ambulance services, NHS trust non-emergency vehicles as well as local police and fire authorities who use either a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card to purchase fuel under the Crown Commercial Services framework.

However, we’ve had a number of requests from organizations, such as blood bike charities and private ambulance companies that support the NHS, to see if we could extend our offer of free fuel to emergency services vehicles to them.

We have decided that we will review requests like this on a case by case basis to see if we can help.

For us to consider if we can extend our existing offer to your organization, please submit a letter from the NHS as evidence that you are working for an NHS trust, and specifically supporting COVIID-19 related activities, via the apply now section of our BP Plus site.

Why are you not offering fuel to emergency services personnel?
We recognize that there are requests to see if we could do more and extend our offer of free fuel to more people, for example, NHS personnel, care workers and medical charities. We made the decision to make this offer to emergency services fleet vehicles as we were able to put a system in place to make it happen, using fuel card payments, quickly and efficiently, and hopefully it will be of some support to the emergency services. We are continuing to look at other ways we can help support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world and will keep reassessing our plans, and actions, as the situation develops.
What is included in this offer?‎
Diesel, unleaded, premium diesel and super unleaded only.
Does the offer include other items like Adblue and Oil?‎
No, the offer covers diesel, unleaded premium diesel and super unleaded only. Other products will be charged in the normal way.
Can you not do more to support the charities, like blood bikes, that support the NHS?‎
We recognize that there are requests to see if we could do more and extend our offer of free fuel. bp will keep looking for more ways to contribute and support the global COVID-19 pandemic response. At present, we have made this offer to fleet vehicles from the police, fire brigade, NHS emergency ambulances and NHS trust non-emergency vehicles who have fuel cards with us or Allstar, the offer is initially valid until 30 April. We are happy to discuss our wider fuel card offer with your organisation.
