FAQs for UK emergency services

Why is bp doing this?

We want to help support essential services as they continue to contend with the coronavirus pandemic. We are doing this by offering free fuel to UK emergency services vehicles (police, fire, NHS ambulances and NHS trust non-emergency vehicles,  blood bikes) and vehicles used by NHS contracted companies, which are involved in responding to the  COVID- 19 pandemic. This offer is only available when purchasing fuel using a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card at a bp branded petrol station.

When will the free fuel offer start and how long will it last?
The initiative will restart on Monday 25 January and is expected to be in place until 31 March.
How do I get free fuel for the vehicles driven on behalf of the emergency services?

Police, fire, NHS ambulances, NHS trust non-emergency vehicles, blood bikes or a NHS contracted company involved in responding to the  COVID- 19 pandemic should use a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card. You should fill up your fleet vehicle at any BP retail site and transact as normal. Your fuel card will be processed, and your organisation will be provided with a zero-value invoice for your purchase.

How will I be reimbursed for these transactions?
This offer applies to emergency services vehicles where fuel is purchased using either a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card at a bp branded petrol station.  For fuel purchased using an Allstar or BP Plus fuel card BP will make the necessary arrangements to ensure that the fuel is ‘free’ for the emergency services.
What about emergency services that do not have an Allstar or BP Plus card?
Over 90 percent of emergency services carry either a BP Plus or Allstar card. Any organisation which does not use  these cards as part of their operations can apply for a BP Plus cardvia the bp website. We will work with any parties not covered to offer them a BP Plus card as appropriate.
Are all emergency services in the UK eligible for the free fuel offer?

This offer applies to the UK National Health Service (NHS) emergency ambulance services, NHS trust non-emergency vehicles, local police, fire authorities blood bikes and NHS contracted companies responding to the Covid-19 pandemic who use either a BP Plus or Allstar fuel card to purchase fuel.

Are any bp petrol stations excluded from this offer?

No, all bp branded petrol stations, whether they are company or dealer (third party) owned, are participating in this free fuel offer to relevant emergency services.

Are the armed forces included in this offer?

At this stage this offer is only available to the UK emergency services referred to in Q1.

I work for the police/fire/ambulance; I am a nurse/volunteer/truck driver/prison guard. Can I fill up with free fuel?

This offer is only available for emergency service vehicles referred in Q1 who are involved in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and doesn’t apply to fuel purchased for personal use by  employees working in the emergency services.

Does this offer of free fuel apply to private vehicles?
The offer does not apply to private vehicles or individuals.
Will all blue light drivers be able to obtain free fuel?

This offer is only available to the emergency services referred to in Q1 that carry either a BP Plus or Allstar card, which is about 90% of all emergency services. Organisations can apply for a BP Plus card via the bp website.

Do you need to show ID to obtain free fuel?

No, just provide the BP Plus or Allstar fuel card and the transaction will be processed by our site teams in the usual manner.

Does this offer apply to coastguards/care workers/mountain rescue?
We have decided that we will review requests like this on a case by case basis to see if we can help. For us to consider if we can extend our existing offer to your organisation, please submit a letter from the NHS as evidence that you are working for an NHS trust, and specifically supporting COVID-19 related activities, via the apply now section of our BP Plus website.
Are you offering free fuel to emergency services in other countries?

Why did you not re-introduce this offer earlier?
These are unprecedented times and we’re working across bp to help where we can. bp wants to support those who the rest of us depend on, which is why we have reinstated the offer now.
Are your service stations aware of the offer?
