Matthew Pierre is a community liaison officer based in Mayaro. Born and bred in bpTT’s south-eastern community, Matthew is well known not just for his 6ft+ stature, or his impressive basketball skills, but also for his role in addressing the needs of the community. In his role as Community Liaison Officer, Matthew does not work a typical 9 hour work day in the office. His role requires him to meet with community based organisations, conduct meetings at the bpTT Mayaro Resource Centre and at Isthmus Court in Galeota, and still find time to visit MIPED grant recipients.
I live in Mayaro, and have lived there all my life. My commute is most times a short distance from home to the bpTT offices at Isthmus Court in Galeota Point, or sometimes an even shorter distance to the Mayaro Resource Centre (MRC). However, outside of my office hours, I spend a lot of time on the road visiting fisher-folk landing sites, meeting with community-based organisations. I prefer to get an early start to the day.
