BP Foundation Gives $75,000 to Support Victims of Hurricane Matthew in North and South Carolina

Release date: 26 October 2016

HOUSTON – The BP Foundation has donated $75,000 to charities in North Carolina and South Carolina that are providing ongoing humanitarian assistance to victims of Hurricane Matthew.

The donation will be divided among two non-profit groups in the states, with $50,000 going to Samaritan’s Purse, which has on-the-ground support teams assisting with flood relief in Eastern North Carolina, and $25,000 to the One SC Fund, which was established by the South Carolina Governor’s Office through the Central Carolina Community Foundation to support victims of historic flooding in 2015 and is now turning its attention to Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in the state.

The BP Foundation also will match dollar-for-dollar donations that company employees make to the two charities or a local disaster relief organization of their choice to support relief efforts.

“We hope these donations can help provide at least a small measure of relief to the thousands affected by the storm,” said Iris Cross, executive director of BP Foundation.

In South Carolina, BP directly employs more than 225 people and spends about $280 million with local businesses, supporting 2,100 jobs in the state. The company’s operations include the BP Cooper River plant and over 300 retail stations. BP’s marketing and trading business sells enough natural gas in South Carolina to meet the needs of every home in the state. In North Carolina, BP has more than 600 branded retail stations across the state and the marketing and trading business has offices in Charlotte and Wilmington.
