BP Foundation Gives $50,000 to Red Cross and Second Harvest Food Bank to Support Louisiana Flood Victims

Release date: 16 August 2016

HOUSTON – The BP Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Louisiana Region of the American Red Cross and $25,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana to provide flood victims with food, water, health services and shelter following the recent catastrophic flooding in southern Louisiana.

The BP Foundation also will match dollar-for-dollar donations that company employees make to the American Red Cross, Second Harvest or a local disaster relief organization of their choice to support relief efforts.

“We hope these donations help, at least in some small part, to ease the suffering of those affected by this unprecedented disaster and to get the people of southern Louisiana back on their feet,” said Iris Cross, executive director of BP Foundation. “We see it as part of our ongoing commitment to the communities where our people live and work.”

In Louisiana, BP directly employs nearly 575 people and spends more than $1.1 billion with local businesses, supporting 8,900 jobs in the state. The company’s operations include a major lubricants facility in Port Allen, which is the regional manufacturing and distribution center for Castrol and BP Lubricants USA. The state is also the home base for BP’s Gulf of Mexico operations for coordinating and transporting personnel and supplies to the company’s offshore platforms.
