Mineworkers Investment Corporation

MIC’s BEE buy-in with BP sets the pace for the transformation of large and multi-national corporations.

The Mineworker’s Investment Company (MIC) is a 100% broad-based BEE investment company established by the Mineworker’s Investment Trust (MIT) in 1995.

MIC’s key objectives:

  • Identify and invest in long-term cash generative assets to enable the Trust to meet its social obligations
  • Actively drive transformation
Since inception, the MIC has disbursed over R368 million directly to MIT, which has in turn advanced the money to fund its social development programmes.

Over and above the distribution of value to the Mineworkers Investment Trust, the MIC has consistently tried to identify investment and related opportunities that could make a difference to people’s lives. They have pursued workplace retailing, the provision and distribution of group insurance products and easy access to credit loans.

The MIC was awarded the BusinessMap Top Unlisted BEE Company of the Year in 2006, and the Barloworld/Wits Business School Top BEE Deal (Peermont) in 2008.
