BP today presented its annual bursary awards to a group of first and second year students of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
The bursary awards programme is part of BP’s major educational support commitment and is aimed at promoting the best students specializing in petroleum engineering and geosciences at the State Oil Academy.
Some 58 Oil Academy students today received the 2010 bursary awards during a BP-hosted ceremony. Of these 30, who are first year students with the highest university admission scores, were presented with BP-branded lap top computers. The remaining 28 are second year students specifically selected on the basis of the results of BP’s technical tests on mathematics, physics, logic and basic geology. These were granted an opportunity to improve their English language skills through BP-funded training which will add to their high-level technical knowledge.
Addressing the event Rashid Javanshir, BP Azerbaijan President, said: “BP bursary programme is one the most important educational initiatives that we are implementing as Azerbaijan’s major oil and gas development partner. It aims to support the education and development of talented representatives of the younger generation who have selected petroleum engineering and geosciences as their career. We believe these awards are only the successful start of their promising future throughout which, we hope, they will achieve excellence in academics and science and will make very good contribution to the development of Azerbaijan’s petro-industry and national science. To help them and others achieve this goal we have decided that our support of education will not be limited to provision of funding for various projects, but will also aim to share our own best-practices in relevant areas through directly engaging with academics and other scientific communities, teaching staff and students of universities.”
In addition, BP announced today that as part of the initiative it would present 10,000 AZN worth books on petro-technical sciences to the library of the State Oil Academy.
