BP today presented its 2012 bursary awards to a group of first and second year students of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
BP’s annual bursary awards programme is part of the company’s commitment to supporting education in Azerbaijan and is aimed at promoting the best students specializing in petroleum engineering, geology, mechanical engineering, electrical (energy) engineering and process automation engineering at the State Oil Academy.
Some 60 students of the Oil Academy today received bursary awards during a BP-hosted event in Baku’s Hilton Hotel. Of these 30, who are first year students with the highest university admission scores, were presented with BP-branded laptop computers. The remaining 30 are second year students specifically selected on the basis of the results of BP’s technical tests on mathematics, physics and logic. These were granted an opportunity to improve their English language skills through BP-funded training, which will add to their high-level technical knowledge.
Addressing the ceremony, Rashid Javanshir, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said: “This year BP celebrates its 20th anniversary in Azerbaijan. We are delighted to mark this important milestone in our history with a series of remarkable events, including our today’s Oil and Gas students Bursary Awards ceremony. BP remains committed to supporting young Azerbaijani talents and will continue to invest in their education and career development. We have many such national talents within our organization who we have successfully developed to very senior positions. Nationalization remains our main target and strategy as we enter the next stage of our major projects. We hope BP’s annual Bursary Awards along with our other major educational programmes will be substantial support to our efforts to develop young oil and gas professionals in Azerbaijan”.
