BP presents annual Bursary Awards

Release date:
31 May 2011

BP today presented its 2011 bursary awards to a group of first and second year students of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.

BP’s annual bursary awards is part of the company’s commitment to support education in Azerbaijan and is aimed at promoting the best students specializing in petroleum engineering, geology, mechanical engineering, electrical (energy) engineering and process automation engineering at the State Oil Academy.

Some 66 students of the Oil Academy today received bursary awards during a BP-hosted ceremony. Of these 30, who are first year students with the highest university admission scores, were presented with BP-branded laptop computers. The remaining 36 are second year students specifically selected on the basis of the results of BP’s technical tests on mathematics, physics and logic. These were granted an opportunity to improve their English language skills through BP-funded training, which will add to their high-level technical knowledge.

Addressing the ceremony, Rashid Javanshir, BP’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, said: “Support for education is one of the priority areas in BP’s commitment to contributing to Azerbaijan’s overall development. We believe by supporting education we are contributing to the country’s efforts to build its future. Our annual bursary programme is part of a wider cooperation with the State Oil Academy. With this programme we aim to encourage a group of selected Academy students to achieve even better results in their studies and future scientific career.”
