New Investment in Azerbaijan’s Future

Release date:
14 December 2006

BP is pleased to announce the launch of a major new scholarship programme for Azerbaijan. The programme is part of BP’s long-term commitment to Azerbaijan’s future and is a continuation of our investment in the development of young and talented Azerbaijani citizens through high-quality training and education.

This scholarship initiative aims to provide outstanding Azerbaijani graduates with the opportunity to pursue courses of studies in the UK. It will consist of at least ten scholars for 2007/08 Master’s degree university courses starting in autumn 2007. The programme will cover a variety of discipline areas including public administration; banking, finance and accounting; and economics.

“We will continue to make education and training a particular focus and plan to continue to invest resources in such initiatives, since our experience suggests this is where we can make the most effective and sustainable contribution. We believe that through support for young Azerbaijanis’ skills and career development we are directly investing in the country’s future, says Clare Bebbington, BP’s Director, Communications and External Affairs.

“We also believe that this programme will enable young bright citizens of Azerbaijan to become uniquely positioned to contribute to their country’s economic and social development and help their nation build its prosperous future. We hope that upon return to Azerbaijan from Western universities these talented young people will be among those who are driving the positive changes in this country.”

The programme will be administered by the British Council on behalf of BP.
