Working in Australia
The success of BP in Australia goes hand in hand with the success of our people
Today, BP in Australia is involved in a whole range of activities, such as refining and marketing petroleum products and lubricants, as well as exploring for and producing natural gas and crude oil. In everything we do, safety, reliability and efficiency are absolute priorities.
The diversity of our activities is reflected in our workforce of more than 7,000 people. We take on people from a range of backgrounds – talented men and women who bring their own particular strengths and personalities to an environment that fosters trust and collaboration.
Our Downstream business in Australia includes two refineries. Kwinana in Perth has a capacity of over 140,000 barrels of crude oil per day and Bulwer Island in Brisbane has a capacity of approximately 100,000 barrels per day. Both are located within a few kilometres of the city which make them equally appealing from a professional and lifestyle perspective.
We have more than 20 fuel terminals located around the country. Our storage capacity and distribution reach allows us to serve our customers through a combination of road, rail and marine transportation options.
Castrol, a BP brand, produces some of the world’s best lubricants. Its products are synonymous with quality – Castrol’s motor oils are particularly well known, but Castrol also makes lubricants for every conceivable application on land, at sea and in the air. Our Kwinana refinery also developed and produces Opal fuel, a low-aromatic unleaded petrol which has been a key success factor in reducing petrol sniffing in remote communities.
We sell consumer fuels and lubricants through our network of almost 1,400 retail sites across Australia. BP Ultimate is the highest quality automotive fuel product available in Australia. Our upstream work includes the North West Shelf Venture which accounts for 80% of Australia’s liquefied natural gas production (LNG) and almost 25% of Australia’s crude oil production.
Our work in the Great Australian Bight, off the coast of South Australia, could lead to some of the most exciting hydrocarbon discoveries of the 21st century, opening up a completely new deepwater oil and gas province. It’s an incredible opportunity, not just for BP but for the whole of Australia.
