BP as the operator of the Shafag-Asiman production sharing agreement announces that the draft Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) document for Shafag-Asiman exploration drilling has been produced and published by BP on behalf of the contractor parties.
The document examines the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of the Shafag-Asiman exploration well drilling activities and describes the recommended mitigation measures. The ESIA process aims to ensure that any adverse environmental and socio-economic impacts arising from the proposed works are identified and minimised, and, where possible, eliminated.
It is currently planned to drill one exploration well within the Shafag-Asiman contract area in a water depth at the well location of approximately 624 metres. It is expected to commence the drilling activities in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The Shafag-Asiman contract area is located approximately 125 km to the south-east of Baku in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea in a deepwater section of about 600-800 meters with reservoir depth of about 7000 meters.
Consultation with stakeholders is an important element of the ESIA process. Collating and documenting the opinions of interested parties ensures that the project design and the ESIA reflect the collective views of key stakeholders.
The full draft ESIA document and the Executive Summary have been produced in Azerbaijani and English and are available on BP’s website
