Expanding our footprint in Africa

Release date:
December 2019
Right to left Justin Walker Technical Services Director Air BP and Inacio Costa Aviation Manager Sonangol shaking hands
We are delighted to be growing our presence in Africa, having signed a technical services agreement with Sonangol in Angola. The agreement will enable us to assist Sonangol in assuring its operations in Luanda and throughout Angola meet international standards

As part of the agreement, we will support Sonangol in providing advice on product quality, operations, HSSE (health, safety, security and environment) and engineering. To build knowledge and competence locally, training programmes will be delivered in Portuguese. This will also enable us to share our expertise with Sonangol’s airport operations and related engineering projects.

Offering a complete aviation fuel consultancy service tailored to each individual customers’ requirements, our technical services incorporate a range of innovative services for airports. These include the design, build and operation of fuelling facilities to help customers comply with international standards, protect operations and manage any risk.

We first entered the African market 75 years ago in Mozambique and Zanzibar and now provide fuel at around 40 locations across the continent. Commenting on the agreement, Air BP’s regional president, Angola, Stephen Willis, said:

"This is another step in the growth of BP’s strategic relationships with Sonangol and Angola, and we look forward to building on this for the future in support of the government’s desire to strengthen and diversify the economy."
