The opening of Berlin’s new air transport hub means we have bid a fond farewell to Berlin Tegel (which is now closed). Berlin Schönefeld, meanwhile, has been incorporated into the new airport and rebranded as Brandenburg Terminal 5. The opening of the new airport was marked by the arrival of an easyJet and a Lufthansa aircraft, both of which were welcomed with a water salute in front of Terminal 1.
Originally conceived more than three decades ago, the new airport covers a 1,470-hectare site. It has been billed as a state-of-the-art transport hub that will enable greater connectivity to and from Germany.
