The last couple of months have seen us take significant steps in our sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) journey. In July we refuelled two Airbus delivery flights with SAF and in August we revealed that we are increasing our supply of SAF throughout 2020 and 2021.

The two Airbus delivery flights for Air Transat were flown from Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport (XFW/ EDH) in Germany to Montreal in Canada. Our commitment to supply SAF at Hamburg included establishing a supply route, including transportation and storage facilities at the airport. It also involved us supplying SAF for Airbus Beluga transport aircraft at Hamburg in December 2019.

We are also delighted to be offering an increased volume of SAF to our airport customers in 2020 and 2021. Our agreement with Neste, the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel and SAF produced from waste and residue raw materials, will see us deliver a volume of SAF that is five times larger than that supplied by both our businesses in 2019.

This increase in supply is in response to rising demand from existing and new customers as well as a mandate in Norway requiring 0.5% of all jet fuel sold to be derived from SAF. Deliveries to airports across our network, including Stockholm and Oslo, are already underway.
