BP names fourth member of staff killed in Algeria

Release date:
12 February 2013

It is with the deepest regret that BP is now able to confirm the identity of the fourth and final BP employee who was killed in the terrorist attack on the In Amenas gas joint venture in Algeria on 16 January.

Stephen (Steve) Green, 47

Stephen Green, from Farnham, UK, was an HSSE specialist, with over 23 years of experience on major international projects. He joined BP in 2012, and was a member of the In Amenas joint venture team.

Colin Browning, Steve’s colleague, described him as “very professional and committed to his role as HSSE Manager. He was respected and recognised for his contributions to safe working,” adding, ”Steve was a friendly and likeable guy, working well with everyone he met.”

Four BP employees – Stephen Green, Seb John, Carlos Estrada and Gordon Rowan – were among the 40 people at In Amenas who were killed in the terrorist attack.

“These men were murdered while carrying out their jobs on a normal working day. It was a calculated and evil act,” said Bob Dudley, BP Group Chief Executive. “As BP mourns the loss of our colleagues, our thoughts are also with the families and friends of all of those who lost their lives in this terrible incident.”
