The Staff product manager, Application Simplification is a first level leader within our global Digital Delivery team. You will collaborate closely with the Application Simplification team, and with wider Digital Delivery and Digital Core teams to deliver successful simplification outcomes for bp.

Let me tell you about the role

As a Product Manager in the AppSim team, you will lead the success of the portfolio, focusing on understanding customer needs and finding opportunities to streamline and optimize the app estate. You lead product strategy, craft a clear vision, and drive the product lifecycle from concept through delivery and scaling. Collaboration is essential—you will work closely with engineers, architects, and business partners to deliver impactful solutions that reduce complexity, improve efficiency, and align with bp’s financial, operational, and technology strategies. You will take a data-driven approach to evaluate outcomes, ensuring initiatives deliver measurable value. As a hands-on contributor, you will track performance, and drive continuous improvement to increase the impact and efficiency of the AppSim portfolio.

What you will deliver

Business focused:

Analytical and commercially focused, you use data-driven insights to evaluate product performance and link outcomes to strategy. You clearly define the purpose behind each product, considering market, competitor, technical, and operational factors. With a strong grasp of business and technical economics—such as TCO, unit economics, and NPV—you will translate vision into strategic roadmaps, working with Tech to deliver in an Agile way while handling cyber, operational, and regulatory risks. You will also be responsible for product costs, analyzing and reporting cost/benefit data to improve value delivery.

Human centered:

You will empathize with customer needs to innovate product solutions, integrating feedback loops to ensure they deliver real value. By coaching team members and driving cross-discipline problem solving, you will help achieve impactful business outcomes.

Technology led:

You will use lean, iterative experiments and low-fidelity prototyping to validate hypotheses and refine solutions before scaling. Collaborating with partners, you will define end-state architecture and drive secure, resilient, and scalable technology solutions. You will engage on data management, ensuring efficient processing, storage, access, and protection. With a focus on enterprise scalability, you will assess opportunities for reusing existing solutions while building new platforms. A strong curiosity for emerging tools and technologies will drive continuous innovation.

Transformational leadership:

You will drive collaboration and efficiency by adopting new working practices, balancing customer insights, business goals, and industry opportunities. With strong influencing skills, you will align senior executives and partners to secure resources and overcome obstacles to bring products to market.

What you will need to be successful (experience and qualifications)

The Product Manager demonstrates expertise in strategic analysis, customer-led development, and technical optimization. They independently lead initiatives, refine strategies, and drive data-driven improvements to meet customer and business needs. With deep domain knowledge, they guide teams through product lifecycles, address challenges, and mentor junior members.

Preferred experience:

  • BS/MS in Business, Economics, STEM or similar experience

  • Extensive experience in product management, with a consistent track record of leading sophisticated projects and delivering successful products

  • Prior leadership roles with a high level of responsibility
