BP Australia continues to actively monitor and respond to the COVID-19 situation

Last updated:
24 April 2020
The safety and well-being of our customers, employees, suppliers and the broader community is our utmost priority, and we also remain focused on maintaining safe, compliant and reliable operations. Our liquid fuel supply chain continues to operate as normal and all sites – including retail sites, terminals and the refinery – remain operational

Safety at BP retail sites

Practicing good hygiene and keeping a healthy physical distance between individuals is our most powerful weapon in fighting this virus and saving lives. We have implemented a number of additional safety measures at all company-operated retail sites:

  • check-out screens to help protect customers and employees
  • social distancing signage and floor markers
  • increasing sanitising procedures in store and on the forecourt, ensuring employees are washing their hands regularly, wiping fuel pump and dispenser handles with disinfectant and making paper towels available. Handwashing facilities are also available to our customers in our onsite bathrooms
  • encouraging the use of contactless forms of payment such as BPme – an app that lets you pay for fuel from your car – or in-store methods such as PayWave
  • closing in-store seating areas
  • stopping the use of reusable coffee cups
  • offering single use condiments with food purchases
  • social distancing procedures for accepting deliveries and replenishing stock

Selected BP retail sites continue to operate home delivery via Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Customers choosing BP Couchfood have access to a selection they’d find at our sites, including special occasion treats plus a number of healthy snacks like protein bars and trail mix. Also available at some sites are pantry basics like milk and bread plus the YouFoodz fresh ready-made meals. Please check the apps for availability in your area.

Truck stops

Up-to-date site information, including available facilities such as showers and lounge access, is available via our store locator. For more detailed information, please read facilities for heavy vehicle drivers.

Safety of our employees

The safety and wellbeing of our employees and our customers is our utmost priority. We have implemented additional health and safety measures at all company-operated retail sites.

We have recently committed to the installation of check out screens and this roll-out is now underway. Other measures include social distancing signage and floor markers, increased sanitising procedures in store and on the forecourt, ensuring employees are washing their hands regularly, wiping fuel pump and dispenser handles with disinfectant and making paper towels available. Handwashing facilities are also available to our customers where there are onsite bathrooms.

We are also encouraging the use of contactless forms of payment such as BPme – an app that lets you pay for fuel from your car – or in-store methods such as PayWave. We have closed in-store seating areas, stopped the use of reusable coffee cups and are offering single use condiments with food purchases. Also in place are social distancing procedures for accepting deliveries and replenishing stock.

Supporting our community

Free drink for healthcare workers

To say thank you to the amazing work Australia's health care workers are doing, we are offering them a free small coffee or bottled water from our Wild Bean Cafes. Visit the Find your nearest BP page of the website to locate your closest Wild Bean Cafe.

PPE donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Together with Air BP, we have donated 35,000 N95 masks to our partner the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This will support the safety of their staff as they continue to provide emergency and health care services during this time.

Keeping St John Ambulance on the move

We are supporting St John Ambulance by providing fuel cards to keep their fleet on the move. As their work is now more important than ever – we’re helping St John volunteers get their ambulances to where they are needed most.

Fuelling Meals on Wheels

As there is now a greater demand for their services – we’re helping Meals on Wheels by providing fuel cards to support their volunteers in delivering food to vulnerable and isolated Australians.

Supporting Rapid Relief Team

Rapid Relief Team volunteers are delivering isolation boxes to vulnerable Australians during this time. We are providing them with fuel cards to support their volunteers in delivering these isolation boxes.

BP operational sites & fuel supply

All our operational sites, including the Kwinana refinery and the Bulwer Island import terminal, remain open. Liquid fuel supplies continue to be available as normal.
