BP Foundation gives $50,000 to support Alaska earthquake relief efforts

Release date:
December 11, 2018

ANCHORAGE – The BP Foundation has donated $50,000 to The American Red Cross of Alaska to provide emergency relief and aid to those affected by the recent Alaska earthquake.

It also will match dollar-for-dollar donations that BP employees make to the charity or a local disaster relief organization of their choice to support relief efforts.

“Alaskans have shown incredible resiliency after this disaster, but we know it will take a long time for many to recover,” said Janet Weiss, president of BP Alaska. “We hope this donation will provide much-needed assistance to Alaskans impacted by the earthquake.”

BP Alaska has long supported disaster preparedness efforts of The American Red Cross of Alaska. In addition to providing emergency aid, the BP Foundation donation will support The American Red Cross of Alaska's long-term disaster response capabilities.

“BP Alaska’s support of our Alaska Ready initiative is absolutely a contributing factor to why we were ready to respond and assist during the earthquake,” said Tanguy Libbrecht, chief executive of the American Red Cross of Alaska.
