Level measurement is used to determine the linear vertical distance between a reference point or datum plane and the surface or interface of a liquid, for the purpose of finding a volume or mass.
Students are able to demonstrate proficiency using many of the common level gauging instruments.
Several methods used to determine the level of liquid in a stationary tank:
- Innage tape-and-bob procedure
- Outage (or ullage) tape-and-bob procedure
- Dip stick
- Sight gauge
- Float and tape
- Level switches
Tank level indicators:
- Varec servo
- Spring loaded tape and float
- Magnetostrictive (MTS)
