BP will display a replica of its well capping system at its booth at OTC Brasil 2013, which will take place October 29-31 at Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro. The system is composed of 250 pieces of equipment, specially developed for emergency capping of wells in waters up to 10,000 feet of depth. The package also includes oil dispersion and debris removal tools.
Building this set of equipment is part of a number of actions BP has been taking to further strengthen its abilities to both prevent and respond to an incident. Those actions have been divided into five areas: prevention and drilling safety, containment, relief wells, spill response and crisis management.
Stored in Houston and maintained in a constant state of readiness, the BP Global Deepwater Well Cap and Tooling Package, as it is known, can be sent within 10 days by seven heavy-lift aircraft to any country where BP operates. In each region, BP also has available the additional equipment and vessels required to deploy the well cap.
BP will host its guests at OTC with a boot in Pavilion 3. Through Castrol Offshore, the company will also participate with a paper on a just released environmentally responsible lubricant developed for sub-sea environments.
