Upstream

BP’s oil and gas exploration and production division is one of its core businesses, globally and in the United States

Teams in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore areas of the lower 48 states are responsible for finding and safely extracting the energy resources America needs.

Gulf of Mexico

BP is one of the largest oil producers in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Its strategy is rooted in continued investment and exploration around four operated hubs: Atlantis, Mad Dog, Na Kika and Thunder Horse

Between 2013 and 2018, BP increased its average daily production in the deepwater gulf by more than 60 percent — from 189,000 barrels of oil equivalent to 315,000.

BPX Energy

After completing a $10.5 billion acquisition of BHP’s American shale assets, BP’s U.S. onshore oil and gas business took over operations of vast new premium positions in Texas and Louisiana

The acquisition added 190,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to the BPX Energy portfolio, bringing the business’ net daily production to roughly 505,000 barrels of oil equivalent in fields spanning five states.
