Lightsource BP expands in Brazil

Release date:
5 July 2019
Lightsource BP has established a firm footprint in Brazil by buying 1.9 gigawatts (GWs) of greenfield solar projects from independent renewables developer Enerlife

The utility-scale solar projects are at different stages – ranging from early land permits to more advanced developments with existing grid connections.

Solar is enjoying rapid growth in Brazil, almost tripling in size last year according to BP’s Statistical Review of World Energy.

Through this acquisition, Lightsource BP will boost its portfolio, bolster experience and establish its ambition to become a major player in the local solar market.

“This move creates a very firm footprint for us across the region and bringing the Enerlife team onboard significantly enhances our local capability and experience.”

As part of this transaction, some members of the Enerlife team will transition to Lightsource BP to work on the acquired portfolio.

Group chief operating officer for Lightsource BP Kareen Boutonnat said: “This move creates a very firm footprint for us across the region and bringing the Enerlife team onboard significantly enhances our local capability and experience. These are the building blocks of which we will grow a very successful solar business across Brazil.”
