On May 31, the 24th Caspian International Oil and Gas Exhibition opened at the Baku Expo Centre. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, HE Ilham Aliyev made an opening speech. After the official opening ceremony President Aliyev took a tour of the exhibition pavilion. At the BP stand the President was welcomed by Gary Jones, President, BP Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey region.
In his speech, Gary briefed the President about the enormous scale of operations and world-class projects in Azerbaijan and in the region over the past 25 years of successful partnership with Azerbaijan. In his own words: “I’m proud to say that ACG’s production and processing facilities are among the largest in BP. To date these platforms have produced over 3 billion barrels of oil, over 80 billion cubic metres of SD gas and over 160 million barrels of condensate. Eight of 10 most productive BP wells globally are in the Caspian. Of these 5 are on ACG and 3 on SD.” Gary has also talked about Sangachal terminal, one of the biggest oil and gas terminals and BTC and SCP pipelines two of the world’s largest industrial infrastructure projects. He gave detailed information on SWAP project progress highlighting the importance of the advanced BP proprietary technology to acquire huge data. Gary concluded with the SD2 project update, followed by an impressive video on the SD2 progress.
On 1 June, as part of the 23rd Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, Caspian Oil and Gas Conference was held at the JW Mariott Absheron Hotel. On the first day of the conference Joe Murphu, Southern Corridor vice president made a presentation summing up BP activities in the region over 25 years.
Caspian Oil and Gas Conference is one of the most significant international oil and gas events where the topical issues of bi-lateral and multi-lateral energy relations and global energy security are discussed.
