Gobustan Technical Training School sends off its first graduates

On November 10, 2015 BP Azerbaijan jointly with SOCAR hosted the first graduation ceremony of the Vocational Training Services project at SOCAR’s Gobustan Regional Training Centre 

Sponsored by BP and co-venturers, the project highlights the parties’ continued mutual commitment to create training and development opportunities for Azerbaijani nationals specializing in the oil and gas industry related disciplines.

The center has provided vocational training opportunities for 79 community members of Garadagh region.
At the end of the event all 79 students were awarded with graduation certificates by Rovnag Abdullayev, Gordon Birrell and other high level officials.

The event brought together senior leadership from SOCAR, BP and co-venturers, major contractors as well as the governor of Garadagh district, who acknowledged the value of the project to Azerbaijani society. 

The contract for cooperation between SOCAR and BP was signed in September 2014 as part of BP’s commitment to supporting Azerbaijan’s efforts to develop world-class capabilities that would meet the growing requirements of the country’s huge oil and gas projects.

Addressing the event, Gordon Birrell, BP’s regional president for Azerbaijan Georgia and Turkey said: “We believe SOCAR’s Gobustan Technical Training School is an excellent educational facility with a curriculum that allows to train highly qualified technicians. When we say highly qualified, we mean workforce capable of working to international standards, using new technologies, processes and mechanisms required by the modern oil and gas industry.”

Rovnag Abdullayev, SOCAR president emphasized the importance of the cooperation between SOCAR and BP in the area of training and developing national professionals required by Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry.
