In his speech BP’s Chief Executive Officer Mr Robert Dudley who also attended the opening ceremony stressed on the importance of this event started at the same time as revival of oil & gas industry followed by country’s independence in 1991.

He also noted that thanks to the vision of the late President Heydar Aliyev, BP and its co-venturers signed what was known as the Contract of the Century with the Government of Azerbaijan in 1994. That put the country firmly back on track to once again become one of the world’s premier oil and gas producing nations.

Since then contributions made by the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, by the government, by SOCAR, by our partners and of course by the people of Azerbaijan stimulated strong economy, created new commercial links that the country is building with the rest of the world, driven a revitalised offshore hydrocarbon production sector.

Mr Dudley also spoke about Stage 2 development of the Shah Deniz field stressing on the largest foreign direct investment made in Azerbaijan, complexity and significance of the project, benefits it will bring to Azerbaijan and countries along the Southern Corridor.

After official opening ceremony the President Aliyev has taken a tour around the exhibition pavilion visiting exhibiting companies' stands.

At BP stand the country President was welcomed by Gordon Birrell, President of BP Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey who made a presentation about ACG's future, technology and building of local capability.

Caspian International Oil and Gas Exhibition is the largest annual and best-attended oil and gas event in Azerbaijan and the Caspian region. The exhibition will last until Friday, 6 June. BP’s stand is located at the central pavilion. Main highlight of BP’s stand is the leading edge and scale of all our operations in the region, highlighting technology, partnership and 20 years achievements in Azerbaijan.

As part of the exhibition, BP on behalf of its co-ventures in ACG, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC), Shah Deniz (SD), and South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) is hosting a unique share fair “Meet the Buyer” event. The event is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for local companies to present their products and services to potential buyers, create opportunities for those SMEs that normally find it difficult to make their way through big companies. On the other hand, this event presents a chance to buyers as well - here they can check the pulse of the local market and find out what is available.

“Meet the Buyer” event is expected to attract a larger number of international clients to meet the local oil and gas supplier market representatives helping them reach international markets.

The venue of this year’s event will be open to public during the Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition at the dedicated pavilion no.3 In addition, BP facilitators will be available to support the exhibitors and visitors during the event.
