The category leaders often dominate their space and are often iconic amongst those consumers that have access to these products and services.
The Icon Brands Survey, conducted in association with Target Group Index (TGI), is the largest of its kind in South Africa with 19 sectors, hundreds of product categories and thousands of brands included in the measurement. A total of 30 000 consumers were surveyed representing about 25 million adult South African consumers.

This year, a total of 160 categories were included in the survey and the Ask Afrika Icon Brands category winners (brands with highest overall scores per category) were identified and BP came out with highest overall scores per category won. This proved BP to be a leader within the competing categories and has dominated market categories. In addition, these results determine how South African consumers are changing, how they think and what is important to them.
