Our General Aviation Manager, Air BP Brazil. Based in São Paulo, Luiz has been with Air BP for 13 years. He joined us in 2005, having started out his career at Castrol Brazil in 1986 before it was acquired by BP in 1999. It’s been a busy start to the year for our team in Brazil as we continue to strengthen our presence in the market, so we thought it would be good to find out more from Luiz.
Luiz, describe your role?
I am responsible for growing our general aviation business in South America, which includes managing into-plane services, or in other words supplying aircraft with fuel, as well as overseeing the bulk sales team, our resellers and military customers.
What does your typical working week involve?
My job entails plenty of meetings with existing customers to support them with their fuel needs and at the same time I’m always looking for new locations and prospective clients to keep expanding our network and client base in South America.
Where is Air BP present in South America?
We market fuel at 26 locations in Brazil, including Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, which joined our network in April. Besides Brazil, we’re present in Lima, Peru and in the main airports in Chile, including Santiago.
What have been the highlights and challenges since we entered Brazil in 2002?
We are experiencing significant growth in general aviation. When I joined Air BP Brazil in 2005, we were only present in a handful of locations and had a very small share of the market. Since then we have expanded rapidly and you can now buy Air BP fuel at a number of airports across the country and in the surrounding region. Our biggest challenge has been to establish and grow our presence in what is a hugely competitive market.
In a market that’s showing signs of recovery, what’s next for Air BP in South America?
Our main goal is to become the number one option for customers purchasing aviation fuel. We aim to achieve this over the next few years by demonstrating how we differ from our competitors through new and innovative offers.
What are your hobbies away from work?
I have two teenage daughters, so as you can imagine they keep me pretty busy outside of work! To unwind I enjoy reading, watching movies and a nice glass of wine.
